DIRECTING

Axion poster.jpg

Much like his work as an actor, Perryn's directing projects lean heavily towards comedy. He has directed productions that run the gamut of comedic style and genre. Farce (Skim, Prometheus Found). Black comedy (Wee Annie's Hold, Copy and Paste). Buddy comedy (A Rose By Any Other Name, Wednesday in the Park with Blake). Romcom (Escape: The Pina Colada Song) Feminist superhero comedy (The Future is Female). He was also the Artistic Director of the online sketch comedy troupe The Grease Monkeys, which aired on egarage.tv

Other genres Perryn has tackled include love stories (Ranch Country, Any Port in a Storm), post apocalyptic dystopias (The Axion), and a post apocalyptic dystopian love story- with zombies (This Is What Dr. Shapiro Was Talking About).

As a writer and actor himself, Perryn has a unique understanding of both the writing and acting process. This allows him to effectively collaborate with the playwright to clarify their story and hone the moments needed to tell that story. His work with actors is based on a philosophy of structured, collaborative play. Put simply, by providing the structure Perryn frees the actors to just play.

This approach fosters an environment of trust and fun. A sense of fun that is infused into all of his productions.

Prometheus Found

"... my favorite of the seven plays... The whole scene is skillfully pulled off and Butera is hysterical."
